Pieces of time

Tap….tap….tap…

She looked up. She saw a faint but familiar silhouette against the moonlight walking towards her, leaning on a stick.

Tap….tap….tap…

She stood up.

“Don’t be expecting him,” she told herself.

The silhouette came closer. Her heart started pounding.

He walked up to her.

“So….It really is you,” she said, touching his scarred cheek.

“Yes. I have come to you. I love you.”

They embraced each other. Then, hand-in-hand, they walked back to his old house.

He opened the door.

“Ladies first,” he smiled.

She walked in and he after her. The room was dusty and full of cobwebs.

“I can’t believe it. We are going to stay here. After so many long years. How I have waited for this moment!”

The glass of a picture reflected the old couple holding each other’s hands and exploring the old. They looked at the picture. It was a picture of a little girl holding a teddy. She had long brown curls with one curl falling over her eyes. There was a withered garland on her picture which crumbled to dust as soon as she touched it.

“That curl still falls over your eyes in the same manner,” he smiled.
